February 22, 2010 - A bright and sunny day matched the upbeat mood of municipal officials, residents, funders and others who marked the opening of Brookside Village, the site of 42 new one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments located in Colchester off Malletts Bay Avenue and on the border with the City of Winooski.

A standing room only crowd of community residents, Governor Jim Douglas, local officials, and public and private funders joined Housing Vermont and the Rockingham Area Community Land Trust in celebrating the redevelopment of the historic NAMCO Block at the intersection of routes 5 and 44 in downtown Windsor.

Vermont’s banking and insurance companies are providing a critical $18 million boost to the state’s affordable housing developers. Housing Vermont announced that a consortium of six financial institutions is making $18 million in private equity available to developers of affordable apartments.

A clear and sunny late autumn sky reflected the upbeat mood of about 70 armed forces veterans, homeless advocates, public and private funders, city and state officials and neighbors who celebrated the start of construction on Canal Street Housing in Winooski with a ground breaking ceremony on November 2.
Housing Vermont and the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) are partnering to create 16 units of transitional housing and 12 units of independent housing which will principally serve formerly homeless veterans. This project fills a longstanding gap in providing essential services to those who have served our country.

Two Housing Vermont developments were among the four projects which received awards from Smart Growth Vermont at its September 16 event. The awards honor projects which embrace smart growth principles to keep Vermont a great place to live.

Housing Vermont recognized Jolinda LaClair and John Tenney for their outstanding contributions to the provision of affordable housing in Vermont.
The awards were presented at Housing Vermont’s annual meeting on September 10 in Burlington. “Vermont is blessed with talented individuals who contribute much to create affordable housing in their communities and throughout the state,” said Housing Vermont President Nancy Owens.
